My Wonderful Knitting Distraction!

Saturday, June 18th, 2011

My grandson is almost eight months old now! How can I choose knitting over babysitting such a cutie! I am so fortunate in having him live just ten minutes away. He brings joy to my weekends!

This is a pic of my vegetable garden two months later!

Not much knitting going on around here, because I am enjoying babysitting my grandson and growing vegetables! How’s that for a combination?! I have to say, the garden yielded more than I expected. I have so many roma tomatoes, banana and serrano peppers, I am giving them away to anyone that will take them! But the strawberries and bell peppers are all MINE! My success is due to:

1. Installed a drip irrigation watering system
2. Fertilized occasionally with fish emulsion
3. Added my home-grown composted dirt
4. Sprayed the pests with my own bug spray (garlic, onion, cayenne pepper)

April Fool’s Day

Friday, April 1st, 2011

Hey Everyone! As an “April Fool’s Day” stunt, I thought that I would take the time and surprise you (and myself) and post to my blog! Whew! I haven’t done this in a while. I am a very busy grandmother these days! 🙂 I have completed knitting another ‘Flower Cardigan’ by Susan B. Anderson….just the seams to sew up. I have knitted up two flowers to be sewn on. And right now I am working on the vine…which is simply a two-stitch I-cord. Since I made the sweater a size 4, I have more length to knit up on the I-cord than the 17-inches stated in the instructions.

On such a ‘fool-hearty’ day as this, I can say that my lawn has been mowed for the first time this Spring and it looks great! (too bad I took the photo before it was mowed.) I have my vegetable garden planted….wish me luck! The Texas heat can come so fast and fry everything in the ground before you can ask, “what happened?!” I have Roma tomatoes, serrano peppers, bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, cilantro and peppermint.

Have a safe day and you have permission to ‘ACT A FOOL‘ today!!

I won the contest on Alla’s “My Little City Girl” blog!! I have adored (and purchased) her very cute patterns for little girls for some time now. She just has an amazing talent for writing patterns for the cutest tops, and now sweaters! I won the GIVEWAY Surprise of 10 balls of Euro yarn! Thank you so much, Alla, for your genorosity. Keep up the great work!

Check it out… first peach cobbler using the peaches from my tree! And yes, the cobbler was ‘fantastico!’

I've been knitting & crocheting many years, and it is great to see the rise in popularity. Basically, the loves of my life include: knitting, crocheting, being with my family and giving thanks to God for how He's blessed my life, but not necessarily in that order!
